YOUTH LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
YLI is a youth-led and highly interactive leadership development program designed to empower and engage youth, ages 11-13.
About YLI
We want to train our young girls and boys to lead with knowledge, confidence, and tools of distinction by equipping them with sound principles and values to make good life choices and decisions in their everyday lives. During the project, our young leaders will spend several months in monthly workshops on etiquette, grooming, health, career preparation, leadership, and more. In addition to this, they will attend social and cultural events and participate in a community service project.
Key Concepts
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, is delighted to offer a program to begin reaching our girls and boys at an early age, preparing them for their future. In doing so, this program will provide:

Mentoring for young girls and boys to become productive citizens and future leaders.

Leadership Foundations
Growth Mindset: Encouraging youth to embrace challenges, learn from criticism, and persevere through obstacles
Goal Setting: Promoting the use of specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) objectives
Civic & Social Awareness: Guiding youth to understand and value the diverse perspectives, cultures, and experiences within a community.
Exploration, Discovery, & Self Expression
Career Exploration: Helping youth discover and evaluate various career paths to identify those that align with their interest, skills, and values
Cultural Exposure: Creating opportunities for youth to engage in various cultures, learn about civic responsibilities, and appreciate the richness of diverse traditions and viewpoints.
Life Skills Experience: Encouraging youth to develop financial literacy, time management, and problem solving skills through activities that resemble everyday challenges
